SCORPIO MOTORSPORT TO RETURN IN WINTER SERIES WITH T-CAR CHAMPION-ELECT BRATT

Teenage T-Car sensation Will Bratt (Adderbury, Banbury) is likely to be the youngest driver competing in the 2004 Formula Renault UK Winter Championship with Michelin, after signing a deal with Loughborough-based Scorpio Motorsport to make his single-seater debut.

Bratt, the 16-year old son of former Renault 5 GT Turbo, Renault Clio, and Renault Spider competitor Rowland, is currently dominating the BRSCC T-Car Championship having never finished off the podium all season and also taking an incredible 14 wins from 16 races so far.

Needing just five points to secure the title, Bratt is hoping to follow the same path as former T-Car rival James Jakes (Cullingworth, West Yorkshire) who enjoyed a successful first season in Formula Renault UK this year finishing 13th overall in the championship and runner-up in the inaugural ‘Graduate Cup’.

“I’m looking forward to my debut in Formula Renault UK very much”, commented Bratt. “I’m hopeful we’ll have secured the T-Car Championship by then and it’ll be good following James into Formula Renault. I’ve enjoyed my test programme so far with Scorpio, which is a great team, and I’m confident we’ll be quite successful.”

Having raced karts from eight years of age, the highlight for Bratt came in 2002 when he finished sixth in the JICA class of the Champions of the Future category. From there he went on to compete in T-Cars and after finishing fourth overall last year he now looks certain to win the title during the penultimate round of the T-Car season at the end of October.

Throughout the summer he’s also been conducting an extensive testing programme with Scorpio Motorsport, the team delighted to be back competing in Formula Renault UK after last racing in the series during 2003.

Team boss Jon Pettitt commented: “We’ve been delighted with Will and one of his great strengths is how he’s very quick straight out of the box. It’s brilliant to work with a driver who’s able to do that, putting in competitive times as soon as he goes out on circuit.

“Testing through the summer has been progressing very well and he certainly looks the part when he’s on track. We’re pretty excited about the Winter Championship actually and I think we have a good chance of some decent results. For Scorpio, as a team, it’s great to be back and we’re looking forward to getting out racing again.”

The Formula Renault UK Winter Championship with Michelin takes place at Pembrey, Wales, on 6th November and Croft Circuit, North Yorkshire, on 13th November.
