Luke Mossey scores BSB podium at Thruxton

23-year-old Luke Mossey from Royston had a fantastic weekend at round six of the MCE British Superbike series at Thruxton Circuit near Andover. He secured a brilliant podium in the opening shortened race with third and he backed that up in race two with a fourth.Luke has always been a fan of the exceptionally fast Thruxton Circuit and he was extremely looking forward to the weekend. The practice sessions went really well and he was always within the top three. The team had a great set-up on the Kawasaki that suited Luke's riding style and they were keen to get into qualifying.Luke had a great opening qualifying session and was easily through to Q2 finishing in second; he was fifth in Q2 and through to Superpole. He had a good one lap stint and his time put him in fourth place on the grid for the opening MCE British Superbike race one.He struggled off the start and dropped to sixth after the opening lap, the racing is always tight at Thruxton and there was a pack of around 11 riders battling for second place, including Luke. He was in sixth place but dropped to ninth when he ran wide at the chicane. The race was red-flagged on lap nine after Stuart Easton had a bike problem and crashed out. After a slight delay and also a very small rain shower the race was re-started.Luke was placed in sixth on the grid for the shorter 12-lap race and lost some places off the start to seventh after lap one. Using the harder SC1 Pirelli tyre Luke chipped away and soon pushed his way forward through the pack. He had soon worked his way up through the pack to fourth place, Leon Haslam tried to come underneath him at the chicane and both were forced to run wide. They re-joined in their positions and Luke was able to push forwards and was soon on the back of Jason O'Halloran and made an easy pass on him for third position. Luke rode a comfortable race for the final two laps taking a brilliant podium position. For race two Luke started from seventh position and once again chose the harder compound tyre for the race. A small rain shower delayed the start and the race was cut short to 18-lap, Luke was feeling confident and made very few changes between races. He got a steady start and held his position on lap one, he was soon keen to push forward and moved through to fifth. He was having an issue with his clutch lever half way through the race and had to keep adjusting it, which saw him drop some positions whilst he tried to fix it. He soon found his rhythm again and made a surge forward to finish in a strong fourth place.Luke Mossey - "I am so happy with the results this weekend and it is our best weekend of the year so far. From the start my bike felt awesome and we literally put the settings in from last year and worked from there. The heat over at Thruxton was pretty intense and certainly affected tyre wear and we know it would be a gamble come race day on what to use but all weekend I felt more comfortable on the harder SC1 tyre and despite not many people using this in race one it was the best one for us.I knew at the start it would be a bit tough until the tyre got up to scratch, I was enjoying the first part of the first race. I had just made a mistake when the red flag came out and we had a re-start. I was still feeling confident and knew I was capable of getting on the podium. I could see people in front of me having issues with their tyres and knew that was my opportunity to try and push harder. I worked my way through and was up to third, the tyre was struggling and on the last lap I had a huge moment, I hit my leg on the tank when I landed back in the seat but secured a good third.I had some physio between races and had an ice pack on but I think getting out of bed tomorrow might be an issue. I had to work through the pain and we didn't change much between races, when the rain started coming down I didn't know what to think but it soon passed by. I had a steady start in the second race and again I went with the harder compound tyre so I knew it would take a couple of laps to get up to speed. I got a really good pace and knew I could get near the front, again I could see people struggling and I knew had to start making a move.I'm so pleased with the weekend and I can't thank my team and personal sponsors enough for their continued support throughout the season and glad I've been able to repay them with some good results finally. I can't wait for Brands now."Personal Sponsors 2016TECcare - Feridax - Sidi - Shoei - GB Racing - SMV - GiMoto - K-Tech - Cool Milk - Krombacher - JMC - ALS - John Wyatt - Graham Godward - Ben Brew - Forcefield
