Jordan takes second in Ireland
Another successful weekend has kept Sutton Coldfield teenager Andrew Jordan in the hunt for the runner-up position in the British Junior Rallycross Championship. Having recently won the BTRDA Junior title, 15-year old Andrew was chasing glory in the premier British championship at the Mondello Park circuit in Ireland over the weekend (9/10 October). However, it was an action-packed weekend as a hefty accident on Saturday left Andrew and his father Mike working hard to repair his racing Mini in time for Sunday's races in the double-header event. On Saturday, Andrew took second place in all three of his heats, but an error cost him victory in the final heat when he ran wide and just lost momentum. Determined to race hard in the final, he led the early stages of the race but was soon to hit dramas. Championship favourite Joe Powis was edged onto the grass on the run to the hairpin and as Andrew turned into the corner Powis could not avoid heavy contact.Andrew's car suffered a lot of damage and was spun round in the impact. Undaunted, he grabbed first gear and continued, but the car had sustained a lot of suspension damage and he had to limp to the finish with a front wheel almost hanging off. However, he still claimed fifth place and more vital points. After a big effort to repair the car, it was ready for Sunday's races and Andrew took two wins and a third place in the three heats. In the final, he pulled off a daring move at the first corner to go from fourth to second, but soon knew that he would just not be able to catch the leading car. "By the second lap, I knew the leader was pulling away from me, so I made sure of second place," he said after a mature performance. Now, heading into the final weekend of the season at Brands Hatch on 30/31 October, Andrew is in the battle for second place in the British Junior Championship battle.
