Ford Fest at Crail Raceway

Hoards of the country’s finest Ford’s will be making their way to Crail Raceway this weekend in an effort to make it onto the pages of specialist car magazines Classic Ford and Fast Ford, which head to Scotland this Sunday (17th October 2004)

The new modified classic car magazine, Retro, will also make an appearance for the first time at Crail Raceway, to view the huge selection of machinery expected to make it along to Scotland’s drag strip.

Although the focus will be on Fords this weekend, all vehicles are welcome and activities included at regular Crail Airfield ‘Thrash’ events will run as usual.  All cars will be allowed on the ¼ mile strip, however, there will be special Ford only classes.  From classics to modern and modified, there will be over 15 prizes incorporating front wheel drive, rear wheel drive and 4 wheel drive, which will be featured in the magazine.

Spectators can expect to see some extremely fast times from a number of special cars at this event, with some of Scotland's most powerful Fords battling it out on the ¼ mile strip.

Although the ¼ mile remains the ultimate prize of the day, the sprint track – where drivers are required to complete a circuit, followed by a figure of eight round the extended drifting oval - is proving to be extremely popular with the crowds.  Meanwhile, the search for the best ‘Show & Shine’ vehicles that Scotland has to offer will continue as part of the day’s line-up.

Kevin Sharpe, this year’s winner of ‘Ultimate Scottish Streetcar’, which took place in August, will be returning to Crail with his 650 bhp Escort Cosworth, to battle for yet another title with his prize winning motor. All cars entering this event on the 1/4 mile must be road legal.

As well as the run what you brung action on the ¼ mile drag strip, which takes place on the mile long runways of the 350 acre, WWII air base, there will be a number of static shows, stalls and trade stands.

The only requirement to take part at Crail is a valid UK driving licence, £7 for admission and a £15 signing-on fee, which entitles participants to unlimited runs on the ¼ mile and the new drift/sprint track. At the end of the day personal performance print-outs showing reaction times to the start lights, 60', 1/4 mile times, and top speed will be given out – personal times can also be easily accessed through crailraceway.co.uk

Gates open 9.00 am strip at 9.30am. The drag strip will remain open till 4.30pm. Adults £7:00, children £4:00
