Luca Casadei scores in Monza

FASTEST- LAP, 1ST IN THE UNDER 25 CATEGORY AND 4TH OVERALL.

Luca ended the 2004 season in the Renault Clio Cup perfectly - at the last round in Monza he got his best result: He finished 4th overall, was 1st in the under 25 category and set the fast lap.

He could have fought for the victory had he not gone off track on the first lap. During qualifying Luca took advantage of Cirò’s slipstream (the slipstream is very influential on the Monza track) and set third fastest time just minutes before the end of the session.

At the start Luca lost 2 positions and got involved in an accident that sent him off track. At the end of the first lap he had dropped down to 13th place. However, Luca did not lose sight of his objective and climbed his way up and set the fastest time with 2’12’’229 -  5th with 2 laps to go and 4th at the last lap.

On the last lap Luca tried to overtake Scilla who closed on him. Consequently, Luca went into the gravel and lost 3rd place by just 2 tenths of a second. However this is still a memorable race that ended the season on a high note.

The 18 year old, who competed for 2 seasons with a single-seater, had a few problems getting used to the touring cars at the start of the season. But after a training period, Casadei started getting good results - taking the Vice European title and is 3rd in the under 25 category of the Renault Clio Cup Italy.

Luca Casadei

“I think this is my best race of the season and if I hadn’t had that accident, I would have probably won. It was a very positive season for me. It started off with a few problems but it ended perfectly.I would like to thank all of the Rangoni Motorsport team and in particular Michel Rangoni that taught me the secrets of this category and of the car that were  a mystery to me. Without their technical help, I wouldn’t have made it. Moreover I would like to thank all of my sponsors for their encouragement and support during the good and bad times. Last but not least, I need to thank Giovanni Minardi who is organizing my career in the  best of ways and  that will lead me to  becoming  professional. Now, it’s time for me to think of the upcoming season.
