Preview, round seven: Bulldog Historic RallyThe seventh and final round of the HRCR Classic Stage Rally Challenge promises to be a real thriller on Saturday 23 October during the Bulldog Historic Rally.Ernie Graham/Robin Kellard (Escort RS2000) currently lead from Gareth Lloyd/Ryland James (Escort RS1800), but there is a real chance of the season ending with a tie between the two crews.Running in parallel to the Armajaro MSA British Historic Rally Championship, the HRCR Classic Stage Rally Challenge is for cars from 1975-81. This new initiative is gaining in support all the time and the level of competition is superb as the title contest heads to the final round over the classic mid-Wales stages. The tremendously sporting contest between the two top crews has raged all season and Lloyd/James know that they have to win the Bulldog to level the scores. If that is the result, the crews will share the overall title with identical scores. Any other result will make Graham and Kellard champions, so the best approach for them is to try and win the event to prevent Lloyd/James taking maximum points.Heading the Classic field away will be Stig Blomqvist/Ana Goni, out for the second time in the Escort RS entered by Historic Rallysport. The Swedish rallying legend is not registered for points, so his result will not affect the championship points, but his presence in the field is hugely popular with rival crews and rally fans alike.Martin Freestone/Chris Heyes are heading for third in the final standings in their Escort RS1800, while Dick Slaughter/Geoff Dearing will again be thrilling the fans with the spectacular style of their RS1800. Grant Shand/Frank Richer (RS1800) and Ian Rix/Richard Swatton add further strength to the field, while a welcome addition to the Classic field is the stunning Rothmans-liveried RS1800 of Andrew Haddon/Mark Crisp.
