The schedule for the 2005 Armajaro MSA British Historic Rally Championship has been announced by the Historic Rally Car Register. The championship will again comprise nine events, three on tarmac and six on gravel. Although the programme is broadly similar to 2004, a new event has been added at the end of the season with the inclusion of the Somerset Historic Stages on 29 October. This new event will take the place of the Bulldog Rally in the BHRC calendar."We took feedback from all our competitors before deciding upon the 2005 calendar," explains championship co-ordinator Brian Thomas. "The only real change requested was to slightly reduce the number of events in Wales. Although Wales undoubtedly offers some of the best forest stages, we were keen to try out a different region and the new Somerset event fitted the bill."As well as a range of top-class gravel events, the BHRC will again visit the Isle of Man for the Manx Historic Rally and travel to Belgium for the Tour of Flanders. The challenge of Epynt completes the tarmac element of the championship, although several tarmac stages are likely to be included in the Somerset event.For 2005, the cars in the HRCR Classic Stage Rally Challenge will join in with the BHRC to make a three category series. All three categories will compete over the same nine events, although the overall BHRC champion will only come from category 1 or category 2.Category 1: pre '67 cars (historic)Category 2: '68 – '75 cars (post-historic)Category 3: '76 – '81 cars (classic)"Making the Classic Challenge a permanent element of the BHRC is excellent news," says Classic co-ordinator, Simon Marks.
