It was critical that Bruno Junqueira (#6 PacifiCare Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone) finish strong in Round 13 of the Bridgestone Presents The Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford to keep in the battle for the 2004 Championship title, and what better way to do that, then to win the Lexmark Indy 300.
All Junqueira had to do was stay within seven points of his Newman/Haas Racing teammate Sebastien Bourdais (#2 McDonald's Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone) this weekend to stay in the fight for the Champ Car World Series title. He knew what he had to do and got the job done, earning his second win of the season as he became the 14th different Champ Car driver to win on the streets of Surfers Paradise.
Bourdais didn’t make it easy for him, finishing only 1.199 seconds behind his stablemate to claim his ninth podium of the season. 2002 Lexmark Indy 300 race winner Mario Dominguez (#55 Herdez Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone) earned his third podium of the year finishing third.
Paul Tracy (#1 Indeck Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone) and Ryan Hunter-Reay (#4 Herdez Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone) rounded out the top five.
