Unlucky end to a brilliant weekend for BE Motorsport's Ligier-Nissan JSP3 LPM3

Javier Ibrán, Toni Castillo and Mathijs Bakker shone in the BE Motorsport-entered Ligier-Nissan JSP3 LPM3 and led on different occasions the four-hour race counting towards the VdeV Endurance Series at Magny-Cours. A safety car deployed after their last pit stop ruined their chances and brought 7th place home.

In the sixth and penultimate round of the 2016 VdeV Endurance Series BE Motorsport matched the best European outfits in terms of speed and competitiveness. Following its maiden podium finish at Mugello last month, it gave that little extra lift to push for the front against an ever fiercer field.

In both free practice sessions, the trio of BE Motorsport completed forty-seven laps and gained further valuable mileage ahead of Saturday´s qualifying session. There, BE Motorsport clocked an average lap of 1:38.268 and its Ligier-Nissan JSP3 LMP3 ranked 8th in LMP3 class. BE Motorsport made a nice start to the 4-hour race and with one hour into the race its drivers were leading overall and had a nearly 30 second lead over the first PFV car and the second LMP3 car was almost a minute behind. As the race continued, BE Motorsport was in podium contention and its pit strategy should have paid off at the end. However, a safety car period following pit stop for BE Motorsport dashed its chances. Finally, BE Motorsport came seventh in class.

“Our race was running superbly just like at Mugello and BE Motorsport was performing excellently. They made most of strategy. Unfortunately Lady Luck wasn´t on our side this time and that safety car period after our last pit stop ruined our chances at the very end”, Ibrán commented. The Spanish racer added that “our sights are set on season finale at Estoril, which takes place on 5-6 November. We will push hard again”.
