Risi Competizione: A Year End Wrap Up Of 2016

Now that the 2016 International Motor Sport Association (IMSA) WeatherTech SportsCar Championship series has drawn to a close, the Houston, Texas-based Risi Competizione Ferrari 488 GTLM team has been reflecting back over the season. The accomplishments this small U.S. team owned by Team Principal Giuseppe Risi achieved are immense, especially when competing against the best of the Grand Touring Le Mans (GTLM) manufacturers with far larger budgets, the factory teams of Corvette, Ford, Porsche and BMW.One of the most amazing actions of the Risi Ferrari team is that they finished every single race in which they competed in 2016. That includes 11 IMSA WeatherTech endurance and sprint races and the entire 24 Hours of Le Mans. That totals up to 93 hours and 18 minutes of racing (less a few pit stops) and 9,462 miles/15,234 kilometres and a total of 2,541 laps in 12 races. With that statistic they completed more race miles than any other 488 in the world! The Risi Competizione Ferrari led a total of 624 laps this season and controlled the lead in eight of the 12 races they competed. The laps led highlights include: 24 Hours of Le Mans - led 159 of 340 laps completed; Lime Rock Park - led 98 of 167 laps completed; COTA - led 43 of 74 laps completed; Petit Le Mans - led 304 of 398 laps completed. The only races in which the Risi Ferrari 488 did not lead any laps were the inaugural race at the 24 Hours of Daytona, Long Beach, Watkins Glen and Mosport.

Of the 12 races the No. 62 Risi Competizione Ferrari 488 GTE participated, they won one, placed on the podium in three and finished in the Top 5 in seven of 12.The talented Risi Competizione pit crew is known for their lightning quick and efficient pit stops. At the Petit Le Mans finale, the Risi Competizione team had the fastest total pit time overall, including all four classes. At the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Risi team had the third fastest total pit time in the GTE-Pro class. An additional statistic for Petit Le Mans was that the Risi team only spent 584.9 seconds/9.7 minutes in the pits, the least of anyone in the 10-hour race overall in any of the four classes.Additionally, the Risi Ferrari used less fuel than any other IMSA GTLM car this season. Risi Competizione won the DEKRA award at five of the 11 IMSA races this season. They included the 12 Hours of Sebring, Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, Lime Rock, Road America and Petit Le Mans. They followed that up with the 2016 year-end IMSA DEKRA Green Award, presented to the team having the cleanest, fastest and most efficient car. The award is determined through green racing protocols established by the United States Department of Energy, Environmental Protection Agency and the Society of Automotive Engineers International as part of their alliance with IMSA.The Risi Competizione team, the Ferrari 488 GTLM and Ferrari as a manufacturer finished second in the GTLM class in the IMSA North American Endurance Championship (NAEC). Risi drivers, Giancarlo Fisichella and Toni Vilander, finished third in the NAEC for drivers.Although Fisichella and Vilander were the season long Risi drivers, guest drivers included Davide Rigon at the 24 Hours of Daytona and 12 Hours of Sebring, Olivier Beretta at the 24 Hours of Daytona, Matteo Malucelli for the 24 Hours of Le Mans and James Calado for Petit Le Mans."I'm really proud of this team and the accomplishment made this year," said Team Principal Giuseppe Risi. "All these people work very hard and it shows in the stats for the season. Not just any small, private team can pull off these achievements and experience the success we have. Imagine if we did not have the bad luck that we did for four of the last five races! This team is not afraid to fight for victory each and every race. Even when they get knocked down, they come back with even more desire than they had before...and I can guarantee that's a lot!"
