Did you know that Lime Rock Park offers ice-and-snow driving clinics in January and February?

They’re called Winter Driving Schools presented by eEuroparts.com (a terrific Connecticut enterprise, headquartered in Windsor), and these clinics are specifically designed for drivers, in their own vehicles, to dramatically improve their winter driving skill-set in a safe, controlled facility, Lime Rock’s infield Winter Autocross course.

A Lime Rock winter clinic is an especially valuable school for new or teen drivers.

Winter driving clinics provide an exceptional base of knowledge, the opportunity to practice skills that help drivers – especially inexperienced ones, or those with low confidence – make the best possible decisions in winter driving environments.

For example, in these clinics you will learn how to quickly recognize understeer (front tire traction loss) and oversteer (rear tire traction loss, i.e., “skidding” and “spinning”) – and then practice, practice, practice fixing the problem.

As we all know, when a car or SUV suddenly skids or starts to spin on a slippery road, that moment can be heart-stopping. But after we teach you to actually create skids and spins – then teach you how to make the proper corrections with your eyes, hands and feet – these low-traction events are no longer scary or heart-stopping. (In fact, for many drivers they become fun.)

Regardless, practicing these snow and ice “saves,” as we call them, in a winter driving clinic instills confidence and a life-saving sense of calm whenever the roads become nasty.

Lime Rock’s professional winter driving instructors and coaches work closely with each driver to provide the most knowledge and practice time.

The cost of a Lime Rock Winter Driving School is $450 per driver; there are six pro coaches to learn from, with a maximum class size of 20 drivers.

The two Winter Driving Schools are Saturday, January 21 and Presidents Day Monday (schools are closed that day), February 20.
