Shlom scores maiden Euro Formula F3 win in Le Castellet storm

The 17-year-old Russian rookie, followed and trained by former F1 driver Andrea Montermini, clinched his first international success in race-1 of EuroFormula Open Winter Series

Yan Shlom won his first F3 race during EuroFormula Open Winter Seres round held in Le Castellet. The 17-year-old driver clinched a stunning victory at the wheel of Fortec Motorsport Dallara F312 after starting from fourth position on the grid and despite treacherous conditions due to heavy rain. Shlom also added the fastest lap of the race to his first international success. His coach is former F1 driver and GT champion Andrea Montermini, who has been following and training Yan since 2016, when the young Russian driver competed in the Italian F4 Championship scoring a total of three podiums.
“I had a great start and directly from the beginning of the race my pace was good - says Shlom -. Thanks for that to Fortec and Andrea! Then my team mate was leading the race so I was trying to catch him. Like 6/7 laps to go he did a mistake so I caught him directly. Then we fought for a couple of corners and I took the lead! Last laps were really difficult because it started to come a lot of water but we managed it so thanks to everyone who helped me through the weekend”.

“I am really happy for Yan - adds Montermini -; he is improving his driving skills step by step. Despite his young age, he is a very talented driver. He still has to improve and get more experience but his great effort and dedication will help him to succeed. This is his first international win and I am proud that I was on his side in a day that he will always remember”.
