Sergio Canamasas joins Trident for F2 season opener

The Barcelona-born driver will be behind the wheel of a Trident-entered car for Round 1 of the newly-renamed F2 series at Bahrain International Circuit. Canamasas carried out positive testing in preseason with the Italy-based team, which is a morale booster as he heads to Sakhir with renewed optimism.
Sergio Canamasas will contest Round 1 of the FIA Formula 2 Championship, which will be held at Bahrain International Circuit next weekend with its traditional doubleheader. Canamasas will be one of the twenty drivers that will be on the grid of the main Formula 1 feeder series and, just like during preseason collective testing held on his home soil in Barcelona and Sakhir, Spain’s experienced pilot will drive a Trident’s Dallara. During preseason, Canamasas completed six days of testing with Trident and working together they found themselves quickly making setup improvements resulting in a particularly good one on long runs.

“We obtained valuable feedback from preseason testing, in which we set our sights on setup. We worked a lot for this Formula 2 season opener, so I feel confident ahead of Bahrain. In my opinion, our tests were rather positive and it was an excellent opportunity to carry out six days with Trident because it helped us to increase our mutual understanding, which is key in such a professional racing series”, Canamasas said. He added: “despite our hard work doesn’t ensure success, I think we built a solid foundation for Bahrain’s round from the very beginning on Friday’s free practice session.”

As usual, Friday will be devoted to free practice and qualifying sessions. Then, Saturday’s feature race will take place at 12.10 (CET) and Sunday’s Sprint race at 13.15 (CET).
