The FIA World Rallycross Championship presented by Monster Energy has signed a new contract with Montalegre RX which will ensure that the northern Portuguese circuit will continue to stage a round of the World Championship for a minimum of five years.
Montalegre’s Mayor Orlando Alves and the FPAK [Portuguese ASN] President Manuel Mello Breyner made the announcement alongside World RX Managing Director for IMG Paul Bellamy at the circuit earlier today.
Mayor Orlando Alves commented: “It is an enormous honour to have everyone here tonight. Representing the people of Montalegre, I toast you all and want to thank you for the opportunity of hosting World RX again for another five years. Each year, you can see that we make huge investment with the track and the facilities. The fantastic environment and setting helps make Montalegre one of the best circuits on the rallycross calendar. Now it is my duty to say thank you to Paul Bellamy and the entire IMG team for giving us the opportunity to sign with World RX for many more years. Montalegre will do its best in order to promote and create value for the championship.”
Paul Bellamy concluded: “The Montalegre RX organisers have worked exceptionally hard over the past 12 months to raise the standard at our Portuguese leg of the World Championship. We’ve seen major infrastructure changes such as an expanded paddock, new grandstand and spectator areas, a bigger press room and brand new medical centre. The team have also worked hard at marketing with excellent promotion of the event throughout north Portugal. With a sell-out crowd last year and with the excellent weather forecast this weekend, the future for Montalegre RX looks very promising.”
Bompiso Rallycross of Portugal will commence tomorrow morning with free practice scheduled for 10am local time.
