MSA Championships Update


Pirelli MSA Welsh Rally Championship Round 3: Plains Rally, 13 May

Callum Black and Elliott Edmondson were fastest on the Plains Rally as competitors descended on Welshpool for round three of the championship.

Black set the fastest times on the morning’s stages, holding a 30-second lead over Connor McCloskey at the rest halt. The afternoon run saw McCloskey reduce the deficit to 12 seconds but not enough to deny Black the win. Hugh Hunter finished with a podium after a mixed day, surviving a huge moment in Gartheiniog.

Ieuan Rowlands powered his Mk II escort to an excellent fourth overall and take the overall lead in the championship. Andy Davies, who had reported fuel problems, replaced the fuel pump at the break and went on to take fifth on the event and second in the championship.

McGrady Insurance MSA Northern Ireland Rally Championship
Round 3: Glens of Antrim Rally, 6 May

Jonny Greer and co-driver Kirsty Riddick guided their Citroen DS3 R5 to a resounding victory on the Glens of Antrim Rally.

After the opening two stages the top three cars driven by Greer, Derek McGarrity and Alan Carmichael all beat the bogey times and were on a joint total time. It wasn’t until stage three that Jonny Greer took over 10 seconds off McGarrity, and over 30 from Alan Carmichael.

Greer ended the rally with a his 21-second advantage over seven times Northern Ireland Rally Champion Derek McGarrity and co-driver Diarmund Falvey.

Britpart MSA British Cross Country Championship
Round 2: Radnor, 13-14 May

Martin Gould took his second victory of the season after a very tough event in Radnor forest.

Gould took the lead after the fourth run after Justin Birchall had initially set the pace in his Lofthouse Freelander.

“It was an extremely hard event,” said Gould. “The course was very rough in places and it was a real test of the cars and crews, we were glad to make it to the finish after another good battle with Justin."

Ben Duckworth completed the top three despite some issues with his Milner LRM-1 cutting out.

Round 4: Whilton Mill, 13-14 May

Taylor Barnard wrapped up another double winning weekend, this time at Whilton Mill.

Matthew Rees finished second in Final 2, while Freddie Slater completed the podium.

Round 4: Whilton Mill, 13-14 May

Louie Westover, Reggie Duhy and Dragan Pinsent shared the heat wins at Wilton Mill, while poleman Morgan Porter dropped to eighth.

Luke Whitehead took the Final 1 win but the hard-fought Final 2 went to Pinsent despite the efforts of Porter and Whitehead. Whitehead was then disqualified for an exhaust fault.

Round 4: Whilton Mill, 13-14 May

Oliver Hodgson took two wins in the heats at Whilton Mill after qualifying on pole, with Elliot Harvey and Lewis Malin also successful.

Hodgson took two Final wins, leading every lap, while the youngster Joe Turney held his own against experienced rivals. Danny Keirle completed the podium.
