MSA Championships Update

Prestone MSA British Rally Championship
Round 4: Ypres Rally, 24 June

Keith Cronin and Mikie Galvin were the top BRC crew on the legendary Ypres Rally – the championship's first overseas round in its 59-year history.

The Irish pair guided their M-Sport Ford Fiesta R5 to victory and mixed it with the best of Europe, finishing sixth in the overall event. The closest challenge came from Fredrik Ahlin and Torstien Eriksen until the Swede lost control of his Fabia R5, ending up in one of the event's notorious ditches.

Eventually Matt Edwards and Darren Garrod took second in their Fiesta R5. Edwards was only on his third Tarmac event in the car and was driving clean and tidy throughout the two days. Completing the BRC podium were Osian Pryce and Dale Furniss (Fiesta R5), who had a quiet event by their high standards.

MSA British Drag Racing Championship
Round 3: Summer Nationals, Santa Pod Raceway, 24-25 June

Rain showers and a racing accident in another class ended the event prematurely, leaving Kevin Slyfield and Marco Maurischat poised to contest the Pro Modified final.

Maurischat, a model of 6.2/6.3-second consistency throughout the weekend, had beaten championship leader Andy Robinson in the semi-final, while Slyfield had eliminated second-placed Bobby Wallace in round one.

In winning that match, Slyfield also snatched Low Elapsed Time of the event by just 0.001 seconds from pole-sitter Marck Harteveld. Low qualifier for the first time in his career, the Dutch racer lost oil pressure in his Sunday morning warm-up and had to withdraw from his opening match against Mick Payne.

Round 6: Tim Sargeant Memorial Autotest (Knutsford and District Motor Club), 25 June

Light rain greeted the competitors at Demon Tweeks’ premises on Sunday for round six, won by Dave Mosey.

The slippery conditions saw championship leaders Malcolm Livingston and Chris Chapman challenged by Willie Keaning and Dave Mosey on the first round of three tests. With the rain continuing, Mosey took the lead by two seconds after six tests, with Livingston, Chapman, and Keaning collecting a five-second penalty each. The lunchtime scoreboard showed Mosey with a six-second lead over Livingston, with Keaning a further four seconds back.

The weather changed for the six afternoon tests and the drying conditions saw Keaning collect a five-second penalty, falling back towards Chapman and Pinkney, while Mosey eased further ahead of Livingston. The final round saw Mosey collect a five-second penalty, while both Livingston and Chapman remained penalty free. Keaning also collected a five-second penalty but Pinkney had a disastrous round, collecting a twenty-second maximum penalty, leaving him fifth, well behind a deserving Keaning.
