Round 5: ALMC Stages, 2 July

Rob Smith and Alun Cook took top honours in round five of the championship, the Trim-based ALMC Stages in Ireland.

Leading championship contenders Nick Elliott/Dave Price and Jason Pritchard/Phil Clarke failed to finish the closed-road rally and there was particular disappointment for Pritchard when distributor failure put him out when leading.

Leading the chase of Smith was Northern Irish crew Stanley Orr/Stephen McAuley, after beating Rudi Lancaster/Guy Weaver by less than four seconds.

Provisional championship standings
1 Nick Elliott/Dave Price – 130 points
2 Jason Pritchard/Phil Clarke – 110

Shaun Sinclair endured a tough run in his Subaru Impreza S14 WRC but managed to bring the potent machine home in third spot, not quite managing to take the event win he achieved the last time the event was run.
