Step back into motorsport’s golden eras at Classic Nostalgia 2025, the flagship summer event at the legendary Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb. Now in its 14th year, this celebration promises an unforgettable weekend of legendary cars, star drivers, and pure high-octane excitement.
HONOURING COLIN MCRAE’S 1995 WORLD RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP VICTORY
Marking 30 years since Colin McRae became the youngest World Rally Champion, Classic Nostalgia will feature a moving tribute to the rally icon.
The legendary Subaru Impreza 555 BAT, which carried McRae to victory on the RAC Rally in 1995, will take centre stage in a poignant tribute, joined by other McRae-driven cars. A special startline photo call and demonstration runs will bring these machines roaring back to life with their unmistakable flat-four growl, as they run up the Shelsley Walsh track in Worcestershire.
A special Q&A session will bring together key members of McRae’s original Prodrive team including engineer David Lapworth, Colin’s then-chief mechanic Alan McGuinness, mechanics Charlie Dodd, Nigel Riddle, Simon Cole, and motorsport commentator Mark James – the familiar voice of the BBC’s Rally Report during that era. Plus, McRae’s father, Jimmy McRae.
Fans can also win a passenger ride in the 1996 Rallye Catalunya-winning Subaru Impreza N1 WRC with David Lapworth at the wheel, supporting Midlands Air Ambulance Charity.
CELEBRATING 75 YEARS OF FORMULA 1
The event will showcase an outstanding line-up of Formula 1 machinery to mark the championship’s 75th anniversary. Highlights include:
Surtees TS7 — the first F1 car built by John Surtees’ team
Shadow DN9B — raced by Hans-Joachim Stuck, Clay Regazzoni, and Elio de Angelis
The ex-Michael Schumacher Benetton B192, one of the most significant cars in modern Formula One history
Rare Netuar-Peugeot — the first F1 car with a rear-mounted Peugeot engine
Joined by a striking McLaren West, resplendent in the iconic Mika Häkkinen-era livery and a World Series Red Bull V6 GP2 single-seater.
NASCAR V8 THUNDER
A dozen V8 NASCAR beasts will thunder up the hill, including an ex-Kevin Harvick Chevrolet and a Craftsman Series-winning truck. Expect raw power and spectacular noise.
1984 TWR JAGUAR XJ-S — ETCC CHAMPION & SPA WINNER
The mighty 1984 Group A Jaguar XJ-S, thanks to the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust, will roar up the hill in special demonstration runs. Built by Tom Walkinshaw Racing, this 5.3L V12 icon dominated the 1984 European Touring Car Championship and secured Jaguar’s first 24-hour race win in decades at Spa. Under its deceptively standard silhouette lie aggressive flared arches, a stripped cockpit, and a fire-scarred dash — a true time capsule of endurance racing. Demonstrations will be led by Mike Gallery.
ICON 917K — A PORSCHE LEGEND REIMAGINED
Prepare to be amazed by the ICON 917K, a road-legal, track-ready homage to the legendary Porsche 917K. Painstakingly built over ten years by Dave Eaton and John Hartland, it faithfully recreates the car that gave Porsche its first Le Mans win in 1970. Finished in the iconic Gulf livery, it is both a showstopper and a true driver’s machine. Don’t miss Richard Attwood and Mike Wilds as they take it up the hill.
50TH ANNIVERSARY — ANDY ROUSE DOLOMITE SPRINT
Celebrating its 50th anniversary, the 1975 Andy Rouse-liveried Dolomite Sprint will make its debut at Shelsley Walsh, driven by Stuart Graham. Restored in its original championship-winning guise, the Dolomite remains a symbol of British engineering excellence.
NIGEL MANSELL’S FORMULA FORD 1600 JAVELIN JLS
One of only three ever built, this Javelin JL5 holds a special place in motorsport lore as the car in which Nigel Mansell claimed his first race win in 1977. Later driven by Eddie Jordan, it has been lovingly restored to its original green McKechnie Racing colours by current owner Martin Sismey, who will also demonstrate it.
1978 HUGHES OF BEACONSFIELD TOYOTA CELICA — MIKE WILDS REUNION
Mike Wilds will be reunited with the 1978 Toyota Celica GT he raced in the British Saloon Car Championship. Campaigned by Wilds in 1978, Alec Poole in 1979, and Martin Brundle in 1980, the car still proudly wears its original hand-painted "HOB" livery.
CLASSIC & SPORTS CAR CONCOURS
The popular Concours returns, open to all pre-1985 cars. Judging will be led by motoring journalist Simon Taylor, joined by John Mayhead (Hagerty) and Alastair Clements (Classic & Sports Car).
Cars will be judged across four classes:
Pre-WW2; 1949-1959; 1960-1985 Saloons; and 1960-1985 Sports/GT – Plus, a Best in ‘Show and Judge’s Choice.
Free to enter with a valid admission ticket (or MAC membership).
THE EXHIBITION OF SPEED
Once again, the Courtyard Barn will transform into the Art of Motorsport Gallery, showcasing a vibrant collection of work from a dozen of the UK’s finest automotive artists. From dynamic 2D and 3D pieces, sculptures and illustrations to striking photography and mosaics. With special guest appearances and new artworks unveiled, it’s a fantastic chance to meet the artists, purchase original pieces, and even have them signed.
Off the track, the excitement keeps rolling with non-stop live music, main stage interviews, more than 25 visiting car clubs, and a breathtaking Spitfire flypast from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (both days) capturing the unmistakable sound and spirit of wartime heroism above the historic Shelsley Walsh hill on what is the 120th anniversary of the historic motorsport venue.
