Capturing over 40 years of racing excellence from Porsche’s legendary RSR program are two important examples from the German marque: a 2017 Porsche 911 RSR-17 and a 1974 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.0 RSR (Estimate: $1,500,000 – $2,000,000).
Tracing its roots back to the legendary Carrera RSR of the 1970s, the 911 RSR-17 is a revolutionary Porsche racing car which introduced, for the first time in the RSR’s history, a mid-engine configuration. Developed to compete in the LM GTE categories of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), the European Le Mans Series, and IMSA’s GTLM class in the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, this RSR-17 was retained by Porsche Motorsport as a spare team car from 2017-2019.
Across its impressive career, the RSR-17 amassed 13 victories, 34 podium finishes, and multiple championship titles, from Daytona to Sebring and Le Mans. In 2019, it raced for the final time at Petit Le Mans wearing heritage “Coca-Cola” livery, evoking memories of Bob Akin’s partnership with the soft-drink brand during IMSA’s thrilling 935-962 era. This example, chassis 905, was used in the production of a promotional film starring Porsche factory driver Patrick Long.
