Classic Motor Hub launches first petrol pump on the public highway offering race fuel from SUSTAIN
March ‘Coffee & Classics’ event will offer an opportunity for motorists to find out more
Motor enthusiasts and race teams can make a more environmentally friendly choice, following the installation of the country’s first SUSTAIN pump which dispenses race fuel containing 50% sustainable content.
The 1000-litre overground fuel pump has been installed at Bibury’s Classic Motor Hub. It offers accessible, high-performance fuel containing 50% sustainable content for road and race applications alike and was created specifically with classic cars in mind.
The pump contains SUSTAIN RACING C50 from Coryton, allowing drivers to reduce the environmental impact of their vehicles. The 102 RON fuel is a high-octane petrol designed for cars and bikes, both old and new, capable of extracting more power from their engines. Fifty per cent of the fuel blend is made from second-generation biomass and further tailored using traditional fuel components for performance benefits. Second-generation biomass includes food wastes, straw, by-products or waste from crops which wouldn’t be used for consumption. These materials recycle the carbon that already exists in our atmosphere, delivering greenhouse gas savings of 35% for this fuel compared to standard fossil fuel, which would release CO2 that has been locked underground for millions of years.
The fuel is compatible with all engines that use standard forecourt petrol and can be used without any engine modifications, and mixed with standard fuels. It is ‘road-legal’, complying with EN228 standards and it is also an E0 (ethanol-free), making it ideal for classic vehicles and ideal for those looking to put their vehicle into storage over the winter.
Having long been used by race teams and classic car enthusiasts across the world, SUSTAIN was launched to general motorists back in 2023, with the UK’s first public pump installed at Motor Spirit in Bicester. Since then, the fuel specialist has seen a growing demand for its biofuel blends and is now working to deploy a national network. This is the third public pump in the country, and the first offering a race fuel.
SUSTAIN brand manager Suresh Nahar commented: “There are many reasons people may choose sustainable fuels – but it’s not always easy to access them. That is why it’s fantastic to see forward-thinking organisations such as Classic Motor Hub embrace these new technologies as we look to provide options for those who want or need an alternative to electric. Sustainable fuels can be used right now, in our current cars, delivering crucial greenhouse gas savings whilst further technologies are being developed and scaled. We know the interest is there, but we need to raise awareness and increase accessibility, both logistically and financially, and we need the same government support currently afforded to EVs. We all want to do our part safeguarding the future of historic motorsport while environmental legislation takes shape – and we do that through innovation and embracing a wide range of technologies.”
Classic Motor Hub’s ‘Coffee & Classics’ event on 22nd March (10am-1pm) will offer the opportunity for motorists to come along and find out more, and to ask any questions of the team. Martin Chisholm, owner and founder at Classic Motor Hub, commented: “I am delighted to be able to promote the use of sustainable fuel by supplying it and getting the word out to the public of its benefits to the cars and the classic car community in general. It has to be the way forwards and the more people using it the sooner we can bring about real change and at the same time safeguard our passion.”
A wider range of sustainable fuel will also be available by the drum from Classic Motor Hub, including blends which contain up to 80% sustainable content, delivering a 65% saving on greenhouse gas emissions, as well as specialist fuels for classic vehicles. SUSTAIN is fully certified, tested and developed in the UK at Coryton’s world-class blending facility.
