Following the successful running of the inaugural Tour Britannia, the organisers are pleased to confirm the 2006 event will run from Tuesday 5 - Friday 8 September. Working on the proven formula of the 2005 event, next year’s Tour Britannia will also feature a host of enhancements, further adding to the enjoyment of Britain’s unique historic Race Tour.
The 2005 event was widely praised for its scenic route, challenging venues and low road mileage. For 2006, however, this will be surpassed. While the route has yet to be finalised, the event looks set to feature extra races and more stages at the much-loved famous hill climb venues. In contrast to this year’s four circuit races, the event is scheduled to take in five races at four of England’s finest venues. Mallory Park and Donington have been added to the itinerary, while the event will once again return to the highly-popular Cadwell Park and famous Silverstone Grand Prix circuit. In addition, overall competitive mileage will increase by over a third, while the liaison sections will be dramatically reduced by nearly 200 miles.
Tour Britannia also has a new headquarters at the magnificent and sumptuous Coombe Abbey Hotel in Warwickshire, from where the event will start and finish each day. Originally a 12th century Cistercian abbey, Coombe Abbey nestles in England’s historic heartland and offers a taste of history with a real sense of luxury.
“The 2005 event was a great success, but there are always refinements that can be made,” said Fred Gallagher, Sporting Director. “We listened very closely to our competitors and think they will be surprised that we have managed to reduce the length of the road sections further, as well as increase the competitive mileage. At the same time, we have kept the character-full English roads that were so much appreciated by everyone.”
Adding to his comments, Commercial Director Alec Poole said: “We are delighted to have added Mallory Park and Donington Park to the route and our new headquarters means we can revisit Cadwell Park over a much shorter leg. Rally headquarters will be breathtaking; I was astonished to find such a beautiful hotel in the middle of the English countryside that is so easily accessible to main transport routes.”
Tour Britannia, a historic Race Tour, is open to owners of pre-1976 road legal cars. Draft Competition and Touring-Regularity regulations, as well as entry forms, will be published at tourbritannia.com in due course.
