..at Classic SpeedFair racing

Races for the prestigious BRDC Historic Sportscar Championship will headline the race programme at the inaugural Classic SpeedFair at Knockhill Racing Circuit on 23 July 2006.

The race series for 1950s sports-racing cars is one of the most competitive series of its kind in Europe and is noted for producing full grids of stunning cars, with Ferrari, Aston Martin, Cooper, Lotus, Lister and many more famous marques represented.

For the first time in its history, the championship will head north of the border to headline Sunday's race programme at the new Knockhill event and the recent extensive development programme at the track should ensure some fine racing.

Several regular BRDC championship contenders are based in Scotland, including John Clark (Lotus 11), Tony Wood (Lister Jaguar) and Jamie McIntyre (Rejo), while many other leading contenders will travel to Knockhill to sample the challenging track for the first time. Philip Walker (Lotus 15) and Graeme Dodd (Cooper Monaco) were the major title contenders in 2005 and may well be back to continue their battles.

With between 20 and 25 classic sports-racing cars of the 1950s expected on the grid, the visiting championship will undoubtedly be a highlight of the programme.

Offering first-class support to the headline race will be races for the highly popular Scottish Historic Sports/Saloons series and the Scottish Historic single-seater series. Both races are expected to draw capacity grids for such a prestigious event. The new Formula Phoenix will also be in action, with a grid full of more recent single-seater racing cars.

Finally, a new race titled the Knockhill 100 for Tin Tops will run over 50 laps to give a 100km distance. The Tin Tops series is open to a wide range of racing saloon cars and will bring another new category to Knockhill.
