Camaro returns after a decade away

One of the star cars in the 2006 Heritage Grand Touring Car Challenge is likely to be the Chevrolet Camaro that Arthur Thurtle, Boysie Thurtle and Roger Bennington will share across the season.

After a decade out of action the ex-Roly Nix Camaro has returned to racing in the hands of its new owners. The car has been completely rebuilt by Thurtle junior at Portflair Motorsport and will be campaigned in the Heritage GT series. The season started well with a fine second place at Oulton Park on Easter Monday when Boysie Thurtle and Bennington shared the car.

With only a shakedown test completed at Snetterton, the team continued to sort the car through the Oulton weekend and its pace should increase still further as the season develops.

"It's similar to the Rouse/Hall car and we've been working on it for about seven months," reported Thurtle junior. "Just about everything is new and we've even converted it to right-hand drive."

Bennington will race the car alongside the Thurtles, with any two of the three driving it per weekend. "We'll share it between the three of us," said Thurtle senior, after stepping aside at Oulton so that his son could give the car its debut race.
