Rhodes to join his father in Heritage GT

Tim Rhodes will line up on the grid to compete against his father John in the Heritage Grand Touring Car Challenge at Donington Park on 20/21 May.John, a racing legend thanks to his touring car successes in the 1960s, has been tempted to return to racing this season in a Mini Cooper S alongside racing newcomer Nathalie Boyd. He had his first race in the car at Oulton Park over Easter. Now his son Tim (27) will also join the Heritage GT field to race an Austin Healey Sprite with Shaun Rainford. "The profile of the Heritage series is very good and it will be great to be on the same grid as dad," he says.Rhodes junior had a very successful karting career as a teenager, but the usual lack of funds kept him out of racing until he met Rainford at the Goodwood Revival Meeting, when Rhodes senior was contesting the St Mary's Trophy race. That meeting led to Tim hiring a car from Rainford to race in the MG Midget Championship and in 2005, his first full season of racing, he won the class title. Now, Tim is set to tackle the rest of the Heritage GT season in a Midget with a 1460cc engine, sharing the car with both Rainford and possibly Peter Dignan.
