Youngs Cobra to race in Heritage GT
Malcolm Young will compete in the Heritage GT Car Challenge later this season in his well-known ex-Martin Colvill AC Cobra, and plans to join the series for the Brands Hatch GP circuit race at the end of August. The 1964 Cobra '13 COB' was owned by Colvill from 1975 and contested around 130 races in his hands, winning several HSCC titles in the process. The Cobra was later owned by Aidan Mills-Thomas and then Chris O'Neill, before Young acquired it early last year. However, he has only raced it twice so far due to other commitments, most recently at Donington in late April when a halfshaft failed.Young, a former prolific MGB racer, now plans to return to racing for the August Heritage race. "It's actually quite easy to drive; just like a big MGB!" he says. In recent seasons, Young raced alongside the late Gerry Marshall in the first of the Marsh Plant Aston Martin V8’s, effectively the sister car to the V8 Le Mans car campaigned by Robin Hamilton. "With 540bhp and only 1200kgs - it’s a lot of fun."That car is now for sale at Stratton Motor Company, complete with a fresh engine from Aston Engineering and a comprehensive spares package.
