Excellent entries for Classic SpeedFair

An excellent range of entries has been confirmed for the inaugural Classic SpeedFair at Knockhill this Sunday (23 July), with a number of significant cars and drivers lining up to compete in this landmark event.Sunday's seven-race programme will dovetail around an array of displays, parades and demonstration as the Dunfermline track plays host to a special day celebrating Scotland's motorsport heritage. One of the star attractions will be a round of the BRDC Historic Sportscar Championship, with the field headed by the pace-setting Cooper Monaco of Graeme Dodd. Chasing Dodd will be the Lister Jaguar of Tony Wood, the Lotus 17s of Peter Horsman and Jim Woodley, the RGS Atalanta of Barry Wood and the Rejo of Jamie McIntyre. The opening race in the new Tin Tops series for pre '66 racing saloons will be a big attraction with an excellent entry for the race, which will run over 50 laps to give a 100km distance.Star driver in the strong field is former Le Mans winner and F1 racer Jackie Oliver, who will share the BMW 1800 of Richard Shaw. Oliver has been a star of classic racing over the last decade and will make a formidable partnership with the hard-charging Shaw. Their BMW could prove to be perfectly suited to Knockhill! However, the American V8s will be tough to beat and the Mustangs of Chris Chiles senior/Chris Chiles junior and Nigel Vaulkhard will be very strong, along with the Lotus Cortinas of Michael Steele and brothers Ivor and Mervyn Miller. Then there are the amazing Mini Coopers of Graham Churchill/Peter Baldwin and Norman Grimshaw, which could humble many of the more powerful cars around Knockhill.Cars from the Formula Phoenix category will be competing for a special SpeedFair Trophy. Notably, the field includes two of the finest historic race car drivers in the world as Simon Hadfield and Michael Schryver travel north for this special weekend.Schryver will race his fabulous Lotus 18, which had a stunning history in the hands of John Surtees, and is the car that has taken him to victory in some of the most prestigious historic races in Europe. Hadfield, meanwhile, will race his Lotus 69 FF1600 car.But the car that should set the pace is the Chevron B39 of Scottish veteran Sandy Watson. The 2-litre Formula 2 car will face tough opposition from another of Watson's cars, the earlier F2 Lotus 59 that former F3 ace Martin O'Connell will race. A good entry of FF1600 cars will also contest the Sir Jackie Stewart Trophy Race, with the Scottish regular joined by David Bailey (Reynard 89FF) and none other than David Leslie in his Royale RP24. The Scottish ace has been a real star on occasional outings in FF1600 over recent seasons, having bought back and restored the car he raced to so much success in 1977.The outline timetable for Sunday's action is:08.30  Qualifying09.50  Race 1, Scottish Sports and Saloons (10 laps)10.15  Race 2, Power Torque Morgan Challenge (20 minutes)10.50  Race 3, The Tin Top 100 (50 laps)On-track activities, parades and demonstrations13.40  Race 4, Sir Jackie Stewart Trophy Race (20 laps)14.15  Race 5, BRDC Historic Sports Car Championship (20 laps)On-track activities, parades and demonstrations15.40  Race 6, SpeedFair Trophy Race for Formula Phoenix (20 laps)16.15  Race 7, Scottish Sports and Saloons (12 Laps)
