Capacity field for Heritage GT
A capacity field of over 30 cars will line up for the next races for the Heritage Grand Touring Car Challenge during the British Touring Car Championship meeting at Brands Hatch over the weekend of 23/24 September. For one of the highest profile HGT dates of the 2006 season, a fabulous and incredibly diverse entry has been assembled for a 40-minute enduro on Saturday and a 20-minute sprint race on Sunday. The Heritage series is on a roll in 2006, with packed grids of cars delivering the sort of race action that the fans love; more power than grip, lots of oversteer and the fastest small cars battling mightily with the big bangers.Winner last time the cars raced at Brands was the Morgan +8 of Phil Hollins, and he'll be going all-out to win again in front of the huge BTCC crowds, but the packed field offers plenty of serious rivals to the Morgan and a gaggle of other cars have also won races this season. The Chevrolet Camaro of Arthur Thurtle/Roger Bennington will be right on the pace, along with the Aston Martin V8 of Chris Scragg and the Ford Mustang of David Yates/Graham Scarborough, while a very strong contender on the Indy circuit will be the flying MGB GTV8 of father and son team Roy and Russell McCarthy. With at least half a dozen American V8s and some very rapid Aston Martins, the Indy circuit is going to be buzzing with top class cars, but the other classes will be just as hotly contested. The Jaguar XJS of Steve Davis and the stunning Jaguar E Type of Peter Lloyd/Stephen Hayward are the cars to beat in the class for mildly modified cars, while the Classic GT cars will be headed by the Lotus Elan 26R of Pat Thomas/Mike Youles. Finally, the class for classic saloons is gaining in strength weekend by weekend. Some very quick Minis will go up against the Ford Escort of Nigel Vaulkhard/John Smirthwaite and the mighty Rover SD1 of Chris and Charlie Williams. Among the Mini pack will be former BTCC hero of the 1960s John Rhodes, who partners Conor O'Brien, while Youles will also team up with partner Nathalie Boyd in her Mini Cooper.
