"MUST DO” DATE – TOUR BRITANNIA (3-6 SEPTEMBER 2007)
Britain's premier event for classic cars, Tour Britannia, will be held during the first week of September 2007. The unique Race Tour, run over a mix of circuits, hills and stages, offers a challenging blend of competitive conditions for classic race, rally and touring machinery.
Now well-established after running successfully in 2005 and 2006, Tour Britannia is recognised as a "must-do" event for competitors from the UK, Europe and the Americas. In 2007 it will offer three days of competition at four world-renowned race circuits plus hill-climb and stately home venues, linked by relaxed road sections through the beautiful English countryside.
The 2007 schedule opens on Monday 3rd September with scrutineering at Kent's Brands Hatch circuit, followed by a gala Welcome Dinner overlooking the circuit. Competition starts on Tuesday 4th at Brands Hatch and the day’s action then takes the crews to the overnight halt at Coombe Abbey in Warwickshire.
The second day, Wednesday 5th, will take in races at two venues, Donington and Mallory Park, in addition to a number of stages, all linked by quiet country roads.
After a further night halt at Coombe Abbey, Thursday 6th includes a race at Oulton Park - a venue which proved particularly popular during the 2006 event - before the final Prize-Giving and celebration party at Coombe Abbey.
"We are confident that Tour Britannia 2007 will prove to be even more popular than the first two years," said Sporting Director Fred Gallagher. "The Race Tour format really works and the competition and camaraderie have been superb. The motor sporting action has been wonderful and that, combined with the relatively relaxed road sections through some of Britain's most beautiful countryside, have proved very rewarding to British crews, and to the many that have come from all over the world for the event."
Porsche driver Nick Faure said after the 2006 Tour Britannia; "It's a wonderful event - five stars. The route has been excellent and the company better. The whole thing has been lovely. All the boxes get ticked for us."
Ferrari Daytona Competizione driver Arnold Meier added: "We felt very welcome throughout and it was definitely worth bringing the cars over.”
In conclusion, Gallagher said: "I'm confident that the 2007 Tour Britannia will build on the successes of the last two events, and we have some exciting new venues, details of which we shall reveal in the coming few months. 2007 will be even better!"
