Nine months before the start of Tour Britannia entries are rolling in at an unprecedented rate. The third running of the historic Race Tour will take place from 3rd to 6th September. "The reputation of this classic Race Tour for quality competition and camaraderie is ensuring quality entries from all over the world," said Sporting Director Fred Gallagher.
First entry to be received was that of Nick Whale who set the pace for most of the 2006 event after an early delay in his Porsche 911. Another Porsche is the 356 of Stanley Gold who will come from California especially for the event. Kurt Engelhorn returns with his AC Cobra 289 and Steve Tandy is back, again driving his immaculate Ferrari 275 GTB.
Richard Frankel has entered his newly acquired ex-John Ruston Alfa Romeo GTAm which will line up alongside Tour Britannia regular, Howard Redhouse’s Shelby GT350 and Derek Hood’s Lightweight Jaguar E-Type in the Competition Category. An unusual sight on the grids will be Ulsterman Paul McMorran’s Crosslé 7S Oldsmobile while another exponent of the big American V8, Ted Williams, has yet to nominate his car.
The Touring Regularity Category has already attracted strong interest. Anthony Moody returns with his magnificent Aston Martin DB4GT but his 2006 co-driver, daughter Justine, will partner her sister Sarah in a Ferrari Daytona. To make it a real family affair Anthony will be co-driven by wife Mari! Meanwhile Tour Britannia stalwart Martin Sharp swaps the Porsche 356 for a Mercedes-Benz 280SL in an effort to get to the end of Tour Britannia without the use of a trailer! Steve Tandy’s brother Ian will also be tackling this category with his Ferrari Dino 246GT.
These entrants and others who get their entries in before 5th March benefit from concessionary, reduced fees. "At the present rate we could be oversubscribed by the beginning of March," said Tour Britannia Commercial Director Alec Poole.
Tour Britannia's 2007 circuit venues are Brands Hatch, Donington, Mallory Park and Oulton Park. After the Brands Hatch start the event will be based at the luxurious Coombe Abbey in Warwickshire. Details of the special tests and hill climbs will be announced in the New Year.
