in its Centenary Year
Tests at Mercedes-Benz World and Brooklands Museum visit
Tour Britannia, Britain’s historic race-tour for cars built before 1976, will visit the historic Brooklands circuit in Surrey this year.
The event, which takes place from the 3rd - 6th September, will feature special tests at the newly-opened Mercedes-Benz World test track as well as the opportunity to drive on sections of the famous banked track, which this year is celebrating its centenary.
Tour Britannia Sporting Director Fred Gallagher said: “From the moment we decided to start the 2007 Tour Britannia in the south-east of England my heart was set on Brooklands. Thanks to the generosity and cooperation of both Mercedes-Benz World and the Brooklands Museum we will be able to offer competitors a unique experience. The Mercedes-Benz World test track is a demanding yet safe environment for the entrants to enjoy their historic cars. It’s an amazing contrast; the state-of-the-art, 21st Century facility, with the famous old circuit.”
On Tuesday 4th September competitors will tackle two runs of the 1.5 mile handling course before enjoying a gourmet lunch in the newly-opened Mercedes-Benz World building. They will then have time to savour the atmosphere of the world’s first purpose-built motor circuit, built by Hugh Locke King on his family estate in 1907.
Tour Britannia 2007 will start on Tuesday 4th September from Brands Hatch in Kent, after Documentation, Scrutineering, and a Gala Dinner the previous day. The cars will then proceed through the picturesque Kent and Surrey countryside before arriving at Brooklands. Then it’s on to another spectacular test at the QinetiQ test track at Longcross, before the overnight halt at Coombe Abbey in Warwickshire.
Entries have been flooding in from owners of historic cars. Alec Poole, Tour Britannia’s Commercial Director said: “Entries have been really strong this year and we are confident that Tour Britannia 2007 will be oversubscribed.”
