... in Dijon
The Fiskens-sponsored Royal Automobile Club Woodcote Trophy got off to a superb start in Dijon at the weekend, despite the weather’s best attempts to hamper proceedings.
Changeable conditions all weekend had looked likely to affect the race, but thankfully the track stayed dry on Sunday making for an exciting race at the French circuit.
Michael Steele took the overall honours with a superb drive in his Jaguar HWM but was chased hard by the Jaguar D-Type of Ben Eastick who eventually had to be content with second place.
Fiskens meanwhile presented the special ‘Spirit of the Series’ award to Roger Woodbridge for his superb attitude throughout a difficult weekend. As always Roger remained happy, enthusiastic and helpful despite things not quite going his way! His Jaguar XK120 suffered some mechanical problems at Dijon, but happily Roger got the car ready for the race and took the chequered flag!
Motor Racing Legends Chairman Duncan Wiltshire was delighted with Roger’s award and also with a stunning start to the 2007 Woodcote Trophy. “Roger really deserves the ‘Spirit of the Series’ award because he is the epitome of the model competitor. Regardless of his fortunes on track and off it he enjoys these events and loves racing. I thought Dijon was a great success and the perfect way for this year’s Woodcote Trophy to begin and we are all looking forward to the next round at Silverstone.”
Fiskens’ representative in Dijon, Tom Edwardes, echoed Wiltshire’s thoughts after enjoying a superb weekend: “What a great grid! It appears that people will travel anywhere to be a part of the Woodcote Trophy and I think this is as much down to the camaraderie off the track as the competition on it. Bring on Silverstone!’
The Woodcote Trophy, a three-round series for genuine sports-racers of the post-War era up to and including December 1955, will also hold rounds at Silverstone 27-29 July and Spa 5-7 October.
