Shelsley Walsh weekend July 14th/15th

Speed Hill Climb action comes back to historic Shelsley Walsh in Worcestershire for the second time in three weekends on July 14th and 15th. On Saturday the course hosts a members event that includes a round of the MG Luffield Championship, while on Sunday it is the inaugural Shelsley Walsh Classic Meeting.

The Shelsley Classic sees entries from the Edwardian era right up to the late 1970’s plus a round of the Ginetta Owners Club Championship which has entries from 1970 up to 1996.

Cars taking to the hill include a Piccard-Pictet Aero-engined Special from 1918, a 1927 Delage with a 27 litre Hispano-Suiza engine and a 1970 7.6 litre Can-Am Mclaren as well as a great many more wonderful classics.

Shelsley Walsh hill top resident Simon Durling, 4th in last years British Hill Climb Championship and currently in exactly the same position in this years title chase is entered in the historic Chevron B25 of Stockton-on-Teme’s Keith ‘Bomber’ Harris who is 50 on Saturday. That is providing that the car survives the Bomber’s low level attacks on the hill during Saturday’s meeting.

The Midland Automobile Club have been fortunate to gain the support of Classic and Sports Car Magazine who have put up a trophy for the most deserving car and driver of the day as well as for an informal concours d’elegance for visitors who arrive in pre-1980 classics.  Spectators are encouraged to turn up in their very own classic with the aim of making the car park as fascinating as the Shelsley paddock.  Tell the gate attendant that you want to enter the concours and you will be given a special windscreen sticker and directed to a special parking area.

Shelsley Walsh is AA signposted approximately 10 miles North West of Worcester. Practise starts at 9:30 am and the event starts at 2:00 pm on both days. Admission is £12 on both days and accompanied children under 16 get in free. This includes parking, transfer to the paddock, and seated trackside enclosures. Excellent catering and light refreshment facilites are available as are a range of souvenirs and regalia.
