Silverstone next for Heritage GT racers
Another stunning field of classic GT and saloon cars will line up for round five of the Charterhouse Heritage GT Car Challenge at Silverstone on Saturday (11 August). A single 45-minute race will support the weekend's British F3/GT meeting, with a grid of over 30 cars for the two-driver race. These cars come from an era when power exceeded grip, and with the bigger cars running 4-litre, 5-litre and even 6-litre engines, oversteer is the norm in Heritage races. Adding to the spectacle will be the fastest of the smaller cars trying to beat the bigger cars.Likely to be the absolute pacesetters are three father and son combos; the Chevrolet Camaros of Peter and Stuart Hall and Arthur and Boysie Thurtle and the flying Morgan +8 of Grahame and Oliver Bryant. Meanwhile, the Morgan of Rick Lloyd/Peter Horsman is another contender for victory. Last time out at Snetterton, in front of the BTCC crowds, the Thurtle Camaro took a thrilling victory by barely a second from the Lloyd Morgan. Now, with the Bryants back in action, the Morgan squad will be gunning for revenge. In the typically strong Aston Martin pack are the thundering V8s of Chris Scragg and George Miller/Les Goble, while the older DB5 of Ian McCallum/John Bussell scored a fine overall podium finish at Snetterton. Also rejoining the series for Silverstone is the very quick MGB GTV8 of Roy and Russell McCarthy and the Ford Mustang of David Yates/Graham Scarborough. More quick Aston Martins include the DB4s of Peter Wheeler/Ben Samuelson and Nichols King/Phil Bennett and the DBS V8 of Bob Searles/Tony Jardine. In the other classes, the beautiful Jaguar E Type of Peter Lloyd/Rob Schirle and the famous Lotus 47 of Pat Thomas/Al Fleming will take on Tony Lees (Morgan +8) and Laki Christoforou (Ford Escort) in the mildly modified class. In the class for period saloon cars, the Cooper S of Clive and Harvey Death will take on the similar car of Nathalie Boyd/Mike Youles.
