Norwich Union MSA Classic expects full line-up

The reinstated Norwich Union MSA Classic has attracted an overwhelming response to its return after a ten-year break. Entries for the iconic classic car event on 14th October opened a fortnight ago and already it is close to over-subscription.

Five locations across the country have been selected to host the start of the event, with Bath and Epsom already full to capacity. Silverstone, York and Norwich all have places left but are filling up fast. At the height of its success, in 1996, the Classic had 14 start locations, with over 1,600 participating cars and the popularity of this year’s event seems to be carrying on that tradition.

From each start point, drivers will follow carefully selected routes, on some of the best driving roads in Britain, many set amidst beautiful countryside.  In addition to checkpoints of specific interest to motoring and motorsport enthusiasts, there will be other exciting venues along the way, creating a host of opportunities for spectators to enjoy the event - almost as much as those taking part! The day will culminate at Silverstone, where drivers will get a rare opportunity to take their classic cars for a spin around the legendary Grand Prix circuit.

To attract an unrivalled line-up of Britain’s best-loved cars, organiser International Motor Sports (IMS) has strived to keep the cost of entry low. As a result, the application for entries this year has been phenomenal.

“I have been overwhelmed by the response to this year’s Norwich Union MSA Classic,” commented Andrew Coe, chief executive of IMS. “The event has always been extremely well-attended and, whilst we knew it would be popular after a ten year break, we did not expect entries to be submitted at the speed they have! We are confident that this year’s running will be the most unique occasion in the classic car calendar.”

Commenting on the affection for the event that has been shown by the classic car community, Tanya Veingard, head of sponsorship at Norwich Union said: “The aim has always been to offer the most complete motoring experience for the classic car owner and IMS has worked hard to recreate the same variety of routes and great atmosphere as has been the case in years gone by. We are delighted to be associated again with an event that has attracted such a wide variety of classics and classic car lovers from across the country.”

The 2007 Norwich Union MSA Classic will be held on Sunday 14 October. There will be a number of start points across the UK. The event will finish at Silverstone, with participating cars doing parade laps on the legendary race circuit. The entry fee is just £100. Entries for each start location will be limited. The MSA is recognised as the sole governing body of motor sport in Great Britain by the world governing body, the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA). IMS is the commercial subsidiary of the MSA and acts as the organiser of the two premier motorsport events in the UK, the F1 British Grand Prix and the UK round of the FIA World Rally Championship, Wales Rally GB.   Norwich Union is the largest UK insurance company offering instant online car, home, life, health, and travel insurance, as well as other financial products from personal loans to lifetime mortgages
