Woodcote Trophy

Awards Dinner fitting finale for Woodcote Trophy season

The curtain officially fell on a second superb season of the Royal Automobile Club Woodcote Trophy with a spectacular Awards Dinner last week.

The Royal Automobile Club’s Woodcote Park clubhouse, in Epsom, hosted the official awards ceremony for the Fiskens-sponsored series, organised by Motor Racing Legends for genuine post-war sportscar-racers of the pre-1956 era, where this year’s stars were honoured.

2007 has once again proved to be a huge success, with grids reaching an all-time high, resulting in some of the most thrilling races on the historic motorsport calendar. A photo-finish, after one hour of racing in the final round at Spa, typified the competitive nature of the series, yet there has been a fantastic, sportsmanlike atmosphere amongst competitors and organisers in the paddock. The ‘Spirit of the Series’ award, presented by Fiskens at each round, has embodied that ambience, recognising those who made a valuable contribution and encapsulated the ‘spirit of the weekend’.

Fiskens general manager James Mitchell admitted that the London-based historic automobile dealership has once again been delighted to be able to offer its support. “We’ve reached the end of the second season of the Woodcote Trophy and we’ve seen it go from strength to strength. Three fabulous races provided the standard of driving and quality of entries we are all striving for. But the Woodcote Trophy is much more than that – it’s a selection of great people having a great time. Everyone at Fiskens is very much looking forward to next year!”

Winners at the awards dinner included: Richard Ashmead / Peter Colborne Barber – Lotus IX (Class 1), Adrian Van der Kroft / Andrew Cameron – Cooper Bristol T20 (Class 2), Eddie McGuire – Nick Wigley/Mark Hales – Gordini T23S (Class 3), Adrian Hall and Nick Adams – Lotus X (Class 3a), Michael Steele and Whizzo Williams – HWM Jaguar (Class 4), Ben Eastick, shared with Nigel Webb, Neil Cunningham and Grahame Dodd – D-type Jaguar (Class 4a), whilst the overall Royal Automobile Club Woodcote Trophy was collected by Eddie McGuire / Nick Wigley and Mark Hales – Gordini T23s.

Awards for the Motor Racing Legends Pre-War Sport Car Series were also handed out to each class winner, and overall winner Phillip Champion and Steve Stanton – Frazer Nash Super Sports.

Motor Racing Legends Chairman Duncan Wiltshire said: “The delightful evening at Woodcote Park was a fitting end to a quite superb season. The standard of the grids in both series has been fantastic and the racing excellent. We’ve all had a thoroughly enjoyable time at each event and I’m sure things will be even better next year.”
