Quality and quantity the goal for a four race programme this season.
After a year of progress, Group C Racing is delighted to be able to announce a programme of events for the 2008 season which is the most ambitious to date.
The fabulous endurance racers from the 1980s and early 1990s will undertake four races, plus a number of official test sessions. The programme will commence at Spa at the RMU Classic meeting on May 16-18 before moving on to Le Mans, where Group C is truly proud to provide the support race for this year's Le Mans 24 Hours on the morning of June 14.
The final two races of the year will take place in the UK, where once again the series will visit the Silverstone Classic, racing on July 26 and 27 before rounding off the season at Donington Park over the weekend of October 4-5.
For each meeting, except Le Mans - where the race will run for 40 minutes - Group C will appear twice over the race weekend, with a 30 minute "Super Cup Sprint" race on Saturday and a 90-minute Enduro Trophy on Sunday, the latter featuring driver changes and refuelling.
Prior to the first race weekend, Group C will run test sessions at Snetterton on March 14 and Silverstone on April 30 in preparation for the season.
Over the winter months further evolution has taken place within the organisational side of the series, with the appointment of long-time historic racing aficionado Charlie Agg, as the man to spearhead the development of the series. Agg was responsible for the growth of the renowned International Super Sports Cup Series in the '80s and '90s and his brief is to consolidate Group C's standing this year.
He said: "2008 offers the prospect of a really excellent season. We have the 20th Anniversary of Jaguar's historic 1988 Le Mans win to celebrate at Silverstone Classic, as well as at Le Mans itself and we have some exciting plans for both events. We have looked at every aspect of the series in recent years and our goal is to get really strong fields at all of the events."
Agg also has some forthright thoughts on what Group C needs to aim for in 2008.He added: "I am intent on ensuring that the cars are run in their period specification and that driving standards are high. We want to ensure that these cars live up to their endurance racing tag, that they run reliably over our longer 90-minute races and so allow these superb machines to put on a really good show. We also plan to make sure that everyone involved has fun."
Joining Agg in the Group C set-up is Kim Harmon, who brings with her a wealth of motorsport organisational experience in the USA. Jenny Baker-Carr will remain in her part time role to support Kim.
