The Oulton Park Gold Cup race meeting in August will be a significant date in the 50th anniversary celebration season of Lola as the company supports the Historic Sports Car Club event at the Cheshire track.
Displays of Lola racing cars, on-track demonstrations and awards for competitors in Lolas will feature during the 25/26 August event. Lolas are expected to be racing in at least five of the weekend's races, with cars ranging from Formula 5000 single-seaters to Formula Juniors and 2-litre sports-racing cars.
"The Gold Cup will certainly have a Lola theme," said Grahame White, Chief Executive of the HSCC. "We hope to present trophies to the leading Lola in several races."
"It’s a wonderful accomplishment to reach 50 years in motor sport and we are looking forward to celebrating with the HSCC," said Lola's Executive Chairman Martin Birrane. "The Oulton Park Gold Cup is itself steeped in history and a fitting event to applaud the Lola cars and drivers who enjoyed great success at Oulton."
Lolas twice won the Oulton Park Gold Cup in the 1960s and 1970s. In 1965 John Surtees won the Gold Cup in a Formula 2 Lola T60, while in 1974 Ian Ashley won the prestigious trophy in a Formula 5000 Lola T330. Others to win in Formula 5000s at Oulton Park included Brian Redman, Frank Gardner and Gordon Spice, while Redman also won the 1968 Guards Spring Trophy at the Cheshire track in a mighty T70Mk3 sports car.
