Masters Festivals spread across Europe

The Masters Racing Series will be taking its hugely popular portfolio of race series across Europe in 2008, with a number of Masters Festivals scheduled.

After successful events in Britain in 2007, an enlarged calendar has been created for 2008 which again includes the UK Festivals but now adds for 2008 new events at Anderstorp (Sweden) on June 7/8 and Magny Cours (France) on August 30/31.

Commemorating the life and success of Sweden’s greatest driver, as well as the 30th Anniversary of the last Swedish Grand Prix, The Masters Series will be able to bring a representative grid of Formula 1 cars from that era, and there is even talk that the infamous 1978 winner, the Brabham fan-car may make a demonstration appearance. The event, to be titled The Ronnie Peterson Historic Grand Prix at the Masters Swedish Classic, will feature races not only for Grand Prix Masters, but also World Sportscar Masters, Proto 70s, Gentlemen Drivers, Top Hat Saloons and the new Touring 70s class.

“We are certainly excited about Anderstorp,” says Series Director Christopher Tate. “This is fabulous circuit, a real driver’s venue, and it is one that very few current historic racers have ever had the chance to race at – and nowadays, is much quicker to drive to. Historic racing is enjoying a boom in Sweden and this Festival will be one of the major motor sports events in the country this year, so we are guaranteed an enthusiastic crowd and a tremendous atmosphere.”

Then, at the end of August, The Masters Series heads to Magny Cours for its maiden Festival at the home of the French Grand Prix. In France, the Sports Racing Masters and GP60s (for pre-winged 1960s Grand Prix Cars) will be joining the other series on that Festival’s timetable.

“Our aim is to offer our members - and many new competitors – some great racing at great venues,” says Christopher Tate. “Magny Cours is a current Grand Prix circuit which always provides close racing. When you add Sweden and France Festivals to the joint HGPCA and GPE event at Donington in April and the Masters Festival at Brands Hatch in May, plus the wide range of our Top Hat meetings in the UK, and the opportunity to race twice this year at Spa as well as at the Silverstone Classic, we believe we offer a complete service to our members like no other in historic motor sport.”

The four Festivals are:

Donington Park, UK                  April 19/20 * Jointly with HGPCA/GPE

Brands Hatch, UK                     May 25/26

Anderstorp, Sweden                 June 7/8

Magny Cours, France                August 30/31

The Masters 2008 Series is already underway, after two recent Saturdays at Goodwood, and now with Thruxton (SRM and Pre-66 Saloons), The Top Hat Race day at Snetterton and GPM, WSM & SRM, and Gentleman Drivers and Proto70s all at Mugello (April 4-6), all coming up in the next 3 weekends.
