AT DONINGTONHuddersfield racer Daniel Lloyd will start the first of today's two Ginetta Junior Championship races at Donington Park National Circuit from a career best seventh place on the grid, the 16-year-old managing to secure his best qualifying result of the season today, Saturday, 3rd May, with his very last lap of the session. The Tockwith Motorsport driver achieved a best time of 1m 28.962 seconds (79.20mph) during this afternoon’s 15-minute qualifying period to secure his place at the head of row four for tomorrow morning’s seventh round of the campaign – just three 10ths of a second away from the top four. With each driver’s second fastest qualifying lap setting the grid for round eight, the British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC) Stars of Tomorrow Scholarship winner managed to maintain a place on the fourth row, his lap of 1m 29.577 seconds good enough for an eighth position start.“I’m a bit disappointed really compared to yesterday as we were only two 10ths of a second off the pace in testing”, said Daniel, “I was actually down in 13th place for a quite a while but I managed to put a lap together in the end even though I didn’t have the track space I wanted to get my rhythm.“Starting seventh in the first race, eighth on the grid for the second one, is higher than we’ve ever started before. We normally make up about five positions in the race so if I can do that tomorrow it’ll be good. I’m looking forward to it.”Incidentally, during this morning’s 15-minute free practice session, Daniel produced the eighth best lap with a time of 1m 29.529 seconds (78.70mph).The Ginetta Junior Championship race action begins with round seven at approximately 10.30 tomorrow, Sunday, 4th May, while round eight will follow at around 17.25. There is a possibility the first of the two encounters will be shown ‘as-live’ during the five hour British Touring Car Championship broadcast on Freeview, cable and digital satellite channel ITV4.
