Litchfield Takes Charge Of KF1 At Rowrah

Mark Litchfield (Ripley, Derbyshire) took control of the Renault-sponsored UK British Karting championship with two crucial race wins at Rowrah in Cumbria on 15th June. Litchfield has won the series three times in previous years and is well on his way to a fourth title as he leads the KF1 championship by 15 points at the halfway stage.

The Maranello driver dominated the weekend at Rowrah, topping the timesheets during practice and winning both heats, although he was challenged by Jonathan Walker (Blackburn), who led the first points-scoring final race for a few laps before Litchfield regained his lead.

Walker had his best results in a season that has improved with every round. A pair of second place finishes has moved him up the championship table from seventh to fourth and marked him out as a contender in the second half of the season.

Lee Bell (High Wycombe) remains second in the championship standings after the third event of the year, but he only managed two sixth-placed finishes allowing Litchfield to open up a significant gap in the points tables. Bell will be hoping he can keep pace with the fastest drivers for the next three meetings to be in with a chance of championship glory.

Chris Rogers (Waltham Cross) remains in third place in the championship after finishing third in final one and fourth in final two. Richard Bradley (Blackheath) was fourth in final one and took the third step on the podium in final two. After winning both races at the first round at Three Sisters, near Wigan, Bradley was set back by an exclusion from one of the races at PFI in May and is only eighth in the championship standings.

Eliott Burton (Sawtry, Cambs) recovered from eighth place in final one to fifth in the second final, while Sam Tordoff (East Carlton, Leeds) only completed two laps of final one, but drove well from 14th on the grid up to eighth in final two, to keep his place in the top six of the championship.

The next round of the MSA Super One British Kart Championship is at Larkhall in Lanarkshire on 16th/17th August.

KF1 provisional championship points: 1 Mark Litchfield 285pts; 2 Lee Bell 270pts; 3 Chris Rogers 263pts; 4 Johnathan Walker 256pts; 5 Jordan Lennox-Lamb 250pts; 6 Sam Tordoff 242pts.
