Layton Leads The Way In V8 Utes

on Territory Day

Today, whilst the rest of Darwin celebrates Territory Day, local lad Layton Crambrook is celebrating for his own reasons. The talented Ford BF Falcon XR8 driver has recently signed new naming sponsor Mother Energy Drink for the rest of the year.“It’s been something in the works for a while now and I couldn’t be happier that not only Mother will be on board but that their debut will be at my home track” explained Crambrook the Ford BF Falcon XR8 driver “I have no doubt I’ll be able to put in the effort and gain a great result as a thank you for their support.”

The V8 Utes will roll into the top end this weekend for Round Four of the Yokohama V8 Ute Racing Series, held at Hidden Valley, Darwin, with Layton “Leadfoot” Crambrook currently leading the overall Series standings on 251 points.

“I always aim to win and am sure with the laps I have had around that circuit and my current status as Series Leader I am in good stead to get a podium place this weekend.”

Australian NASCAR Champion and Holden steerer Kim Jane is close behind currently sitting in second overall in the Series standings on 223 points whilst reigning Series Champion Grant Johnson rounds out the top three on 207 points.

Hidden Valley last year set the scene for the closest finish in V8 Ute history when Coopers Pale Ale Racing driver Jack Elsegood cleared the chequered flag by 0.01 hundredths of a second ahead of  the Grove Juice Holden steerer Grant Johnson.

Not only was it the location for the record breaking finish in the category it was also the stage for one of the biggest crashes. Thirty-nine seconds into the second race the Trading Post/Bob Jane entry of Kim Jane was squeezed off track and onto the grass before clouting the tyre wall and becoming airborn, the Commodore rolled onto its side before settling back on all fours. Jane much alike Kingsley, walked away from the incident with no major physical injury but a badly bruised ego.

Jack Elsegood took out the overall Round trophy in 2007 with Grant Johnson in second and Gary Baxter in third on the podium.

This year for the fans, there are plenty of opportunities around town to meet and greet drivers and get up close to the mean machines of V8 Ute Racing such as signing sessions at Sky City Casino, displays at Knuckey Street Mall and a Roaring Lion Energy Drink Party, just to name a few. The Party will take place at Wisdom Bar in Mitchell Street from 7pm with free platters of food and special drink prices for all those keen to come on by and say hi to your favourite driver.
