Adopting the successful format of 40 minute mini-endurance races for 1 or 2 drivers that the Classic Sports Car Club (CSCC) has run for all its series since 2001, the CSCC are delighted to announce their first ever series for FIA Appendix K compliant cars for 2010, again demonstrating why it is that the CSCC are one of the fastest growing motor racing clubs in the UK.
The “Classic K” series is a new series designed to attract those competitors who want to race their FIA Appendix K cars in a strictly controlled, value for money series at the top circuits in the UK, as well as at invitation events at Spa and the Nurburgring. There will be 10 rounds in all and each round will feature a compulsory pit stop.
The series is designed to attract owners of 4 and 6 cylinder GT & Touring Cars which have, as a model, international competition history & which were available prior to 31 Dec 1965. No sports racers will be eligible.
The CSCC are hoping to attract competitors who want value for money & a level playing field with strict enforcement of the regulations. The jewel in the crown for the series will be the opportunity to race at Spa in July in the Historic Touring Car & GT Trophy (HTGT) race.
This series will be quite a departure from Series previously run by the CSCC. It has identified the opportunity to bring the tried, tested and extremely popular format of racing (2 driver or 2 car) 40 minute races with a compulsory pit stop to historic cars prepared to the standard of the day - as opposed to cars of the day developed to more modern capabilities using much modern technology, construction materials and principles.
All cars must comply with FIA Appendix K Regulations and must hold current HTP papers or CSCC VIF papers for the Classic K series.
Technical regulations will be enforced by the historic car specialist scrutineer, Jim Lowry, who will be on hand at all meetings to check eligibility. Competitors should be aware that it is intended to check every car at every round and especially for the following:
• Ignition System (only points and condenser allowed).• Valve gear (no roller rockers).• Exhaust Manifolds (must comply with homologation papers).• Rim width.• Bodywork (period Appendix K approved shape and material).• Ground Clearance; 100mm for all un-sprung parts excluding exhaust systems.• TYRES; all cars must run on Dunlop L or M section tyres.Any car with a rim width of 6” or more must run L section tyres.
The Classic Sports Car Club was set up in 2001 by enthusiast racers who wanted to offer racing at grass roots level and since then the has grown to over 700 members and runs more than ten race weekends each year. Along with a full national race programme we also invite our members to attend European race weekends. The CSCC organises five race series' of its own, “Swinging Sixties” for 1960’s era Sports and Saloon car, “Tin Tops” for saloons and hatchbacks of all ages, “Future Classics” for Sports Saloons and GT cars up to 1990, “Magnificent 7s” for all Lotus 7 inspired cars and now, the “Classik K” SeriesA unique aspect of the Club’s series’ is that its UK races are all a 40 minute “mini-enduro” format featuring a compulsory pit stop for one or two drivers. 2 cars can also compete in a “relay” format.Regulations for “Classic K” are as FIA Appendix “K”, namely full period international racing specification in accordance with manufacturer’s homologation forms. All vehicles should have an FIA Historic Technical Passport.
Alternatively an entrant may apply for a CSCC VIF form and race provided the car is approved as being the appropriate specification by the eligibility scrutineer.
Only 4 and 6 cylinder cars are eligible for the series, although drum braked V8 cars from period E (Pre 1961) may be considered in this class on condition they use Dunlop “L” section tyres.
