Introduction of "SUPER 70s" Class for Sports, Saloons & GTs

THE CLASSIC SPORTS CAR CLUB INTRODUCES A NEW CLASS FOR 1970S SUB 2 LITRE CARS WITHIN ITS “FUTURE CLASSICS SERIES”

The Classic Sports Car Club (CSCC) continues to listen to the requirements of its members and is pleased to announce the introduction of a new class within its existing “Future Classics” Series for sub 2 litre cars from the 1970s.

The new class will be known as the “Super 70s” Class.

“Future Classics” was originally established to give cars from the 1970s and 1980s a place to race in a 40 minute endurance format for one or two drivers, a format proven to be successful for cars from the 1960s (“Swinging Sixties”) and for more modern Saloons and Hatchbacks (“Tin Tops”).

The format has proven to be successful for bigger engined cars in “Future Classics” but sub 2 litre cars were split between “Future Classics” and the “Tin Tops” series.  The CSCC would now like to encourage all sub 2 litre cars from the 1970s to run together in this new “Super 70s” class.

In fact, the age limit for the types of cars eligible for Super 70s has been fixed as 1981 as this fits in with the age criteria for the invitation event at the Nurburgring that the CSCC gets invited to every year.  Thus all cars in the Super 70s class will automatically be eligible to race at the annual Nurburgring 300Km race.

The CSCC are hoping to attract cars such as Alfa Suds and Sprints, Alfa GTV (Bertone & Alfetta), BMW 2002, Fiat X1/9, Ford Escort, Lancia Beta, MGB, Porsche 924, Triumph Dolomite and VW Golf Gti etc etc out to race together against each other for a class award.

At the moment just one class will run, although this may be amended in due course.

To sum up, if you have a sports, saloon or GT that is of a model type produced between 1 Jan 1970 and 31 Dec 1981, and it is below 2 litres in capacity you are invited to race it in the Super 70s class within Future Classics.

All standard “Future Classics” regulations will apply and competitors can register on “Future Classics” forms available from the CSCC website.
