Six of the finest circuits in Europe feature in the 2010 Historic Formula 2 Championship during a schedule of 12 races at six major historic race meetings. All six tracks on the superb calendar put together by the Historic Sports Car Club have a period Formula 2 history.
Building on the success of the 2009 season, when grids of up to 30 cars contested the revitalised series, this year will include races at Spa, Monza, Dijon and the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit. The season starts at Hockenheim in April and visits the recently upgraded Nogaro circuit in France for the first time in several years. In the 1970s, Nogaro was a regular venue on the European Formula 2 Championship schedule.
In 2010, the Historic F2 programme will share all six events with the FIA Historic Formula One Championship, which is excellent news for drivers who have cars suitable for both categories. As before, the F2 championship caters for both 1600cc and 2-litre Formula 2 and Formula Atlantic cars from 1967 to 1978.
"Last year was a very good season for Historic F2, with strong grids and good racing" said Grahame White, CEO of the HSCC. "We've already had a very positive reaction to 2010 and there are a number of new people coming into the championship. The venues are good and are very appropriate to Formula 2 and the heritage of the category."
In 2009, a total of 49 drivers raced in Historic F2 and 19 different models of car were represented. The average grid size, which had been 15 cars in 2008, rose to 24 cars last season.
