Liddell Looks To Rebound In Next Event After Struggling With CamaroRolex 24 At Daytona co-winner Ryan Dalziel didn’t gain any ground during Saturday’s Porsche 250, the third round of the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series race at Barber Motorsports Park in the U.S., but he still managed a strong showing.

The Coatbridge, Scotland-born driver finished third in the No. 8 Corsa Car Care BMW Riley Daytona Prototype with co-driver Mike Forest and team Starworks Motorsport. Dalziel, coming to Barber at a seven-point deficit in the points, is now 12 points (102-90) behind race winners Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas in the No. 01 TELMEX BMW Riley.

“I think it went real well,” Dalziel said. “We had a good car at Homestead, but we rushed a lot of things and knew we could do a better job. The guys had a few weeks to fix some of the stuff. I would consider this the start of our season. I think both cars are going to be competitive throughout the season. Mike did a great job today. We had our own strategy, and I think it paid off today.”

Dalziel took over from Forest midway through the race and was poised to run up front. Despite contact with the pole-winning car of Max Angelelli during the final 90 minutes of the two-hour, 45-minute race, Dalziel sustained little damage and chased second-place finisher Ozz Negri to the checkered flag.

In GT, two U.K. drivers competed and earned top fives. Robin Liddell of Northampton finished fourth in the No. 57 Stevenson Automotive Group/BryanMark Chevrolet Camaro, the highest-finishing car that was not a Mazda RX-8. Liddell and Davis maintained the second-place position in the points standings.

“We had some good battles during the race which were kind of fun, but we really struggled with the pace of the car,” Liddell said. “We just had nothing for the Mazdas. It was just difficult because we couldn’t compete with anybody.”

Finishing right behind Liddell was Adam Christodoulou of Lichfield, running his second race in the No. 68 Mazda Motorsports Development Mazda RX-8 with co-driver Jon Edwards. Christodoulou’s SpeedSource teammates Jeff Segal and Emil Assentato won their second consecutive race in the Rolex Series GT class.

The next event for the Rolex Series will be 24 April at Virginia International Raceway.
