Next year's E-Type Challenge, a special 50th anniversary race series for the Jaguar E-Type, will feature a race at the famous Nurburgring Oldtimer Grand Prix in August 2011.
The E-Type Challenge, which will run for one year only and will be managed by the Historic Sports Car Club, now has dates confirmed at some of the finest tracks in Europe, with the Nurburgring joining Silverstone GP, Brands Hatch GP and Oulton Park International on the schedule.
The provisional schedule includes the HSCC Brands Hatch Superprix (early July), the Silverstone Classic (late July), the Nurburgring Oldtimer (mid-August) and the Oulton Park Gold Cup (late August). An additional date is due to be confirmed in due course. Events will feature either double-header races or longer races.
The 2011 AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix will be the 39th running of one of the first and most important historic racing festivals in Europe.
"It is a major coup for the E-Type Challenge to secure a slot at such a prestigious event. We now have races at some of the best events in Europe," said Tony O'Keeffe, Curator of the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust. "We are thrilled with the level of interest from all over the world; the E-Type Challenge is certainly gathering momentum."
By running in a relatively compressed period through the summer months, the E-Type Challenge should appeal to owners from all over the world and the HSCC already reports strong international interest in the series. The races will only be open to FIA Appendix K specification E-Types from up to 1966.
The E-Type was developed as a replacement for the XK150 and over 70,000 E-Types were produced between 1961 and 1974. It was the car that Enzo Ferrari once described as the most beautiful car ever made. In March 2008, the E-Type was named the most beautiful car of all time in the Daily Telegraph's list of the top 100.
