Carrera Cup GB scholars test Porsche Supercup car

Porsche Carrera Cup GB Scholarship drivers Euan Hankey and Michael Meadows tested the latest specification 911GT3 Cup car at Pembrey yesterday (23 June) ahead of racing in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup race supporting the British Grand Prix in July.The step up to the Formula 1 support race at Silverstone comes as an additional reward for their success in the 2010 Scholarship and represents a fantastic opportunity to race in front of a packed crowd at their home Grand Prix.Porsche Cars GB is entering the two young drivers and the race weekend comes as a huge bonus to the main Scholarship prize of a £50,000 contribution towards their Carrera Cup GB budget for this season.Hankey and Meadows will drive the latest specification 911GT3 Cup car, which will be introduced into the Porsche Carrera Cup GB for the 2011 season, and spent the day running the car in an exclusive test at Pembrey. On hand to work with the drivers was 2007 Carrera Cup champion James Sutton, who has experience of the new car from racing in Carrera Cup Italy.Both drivers ended the day hugely impressed with the new car. "Absolutely fantastic," said Hankey in summary. "The car is phenomenal; it is so responsive, it's faster and it sounds wonderful. The brakes are amazing and it really is fun to drive; it feels even more like a racing car that the current car. Everything from the throttle is more responsive and you can feel the greater downforce in the fast corner. Everything has moved on another notch and it is wonderful!"Meadows said that the chance to drive the new car has further fired his enthusiasm about tackling the high-profile Supercup race."It feels quite different," said after his first run at Pembrey. "It is stiffer and the brakes and change of direction are very good. It is so nice in the high-speed corners and that will suit Silverstone very well. Driving the car for the first time today has really made me enthusiastic about the Supercup race."The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup race will be one of the key support races at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Sunday 11 July.
