Caterham Festival heads to Rockingham

MOTOR racing enthusiasts are in for a real treat next weekend (July 3/4) when one of the UK’s most popular racing marques takes over Rockingham for the first time in association with the British Sports Car Club (BRSCC).

Around 150 of the world famous sports cars will be descending on the Northamptonshire circuit for the Caterham Festival in what is expected to be a real delight for enthusiasts of racing, overtaking and general mayhem.

Widely accepted as the closest and most exciting racing in UK motorsport, the Caterhams will be topping the bill with an amazing 10 championship races.

There will be action right through the weekend from novices in the PistonHeads Caterham Academy through to the series which has been described as one of the most competitive championship in the country, the awesome Caterham R300s.

In fact, Rockingham will be the first ever race for this year’s Caterham Academy drivers, which includes PistonHeads journalist, Matt Rigby. Support races will be provided by the Drayton Manor Park Metro Cup and single-seaters from Formula Academy.

The LineX Pickup Truck Championship was also scheduled to compete at Rockingham as part of the support race package but due to other team commitments, the organisers have been forced to withdraw from this meeting.

Rockingham Director, Charlotte Orton, said: “Caterhams have always been a firm favourite among the club racing community, and we are delighted that they will be headlining an event for the first time at Rockingham.

“The Caterhams are very exciting to watch with close racing designed to thrill spectators, with the podium places often decided by just a few hundredths of a second, which should make for a highly entertaining weekend.”

On race day there will be plenty for all the family to enjoy, including a Caterham track parade, children’s entertainers and the chance to get in the driving seat of Rockingham’s race simulators. Grandstand seats and access to the paddock area are free.

With children aged 15 and under getting in FREE and adult admission tickets frozen at 2008 prices, families are guaranteed the chance to enjoy a whole day of quality entertainment at a price they can afford.
