9 - 11th July 2010
Located just south of the Townsville CBD, the circuit winds its way through Reid Park where specially constructed roads form approximately 70 percent of the circuit.
Set in a parkland style reminiscent of the Albert Park street circuit in Melbourne, the Townsville circuit proved to be a challenge in its inaugural year in 2009 and quickly became a favourite of the drivers. David Sieders, who celebrated his 26th birthday last week, will be hoping that the combination of a new engine and social media resources will see him return to the front of the field when the Yokohama V8 Utes hit the streets of Townsville next weekend, 9-11th July.
The Nulon Oils Ford Falcon XR8 driver will be heading to Townsville tomorrow to help install his new motor, which is expected to lift his recent performances and has already boosted his confidence going into the Far North Queensland round.
“Darwin was always going to be a Holden dominated round of the Series,” said Sieders, “and being down on horsepower made it really hard to match it down the straight with the frontrunners”.
“We’ll be bolting in the new engine on Tuesday and giving it a good run over the dyno before the round, and that should help me put the car back to where it was at Adelaide - back at the front.”
Townsville support spurs Sieders’ Supercar return
As the V8 Supercars prepare to bring the ‘greatest show on wheels’ to the people of Townsville, Colin Sieders is preparing to bring the people of Townsville to the V8 Supercars when he returns to the driver’s seat next month.
The 28 year old from Penrith, has been inspired by an increased usage of the feeder category by V8 Supercar Championship teams and will contest Round 4 of the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Development Series in the ‘City of Townsville’ Falcon, 9-11th July.
“I’m really excited about getting back behind the wheel,” said Sieders, “the Development Series is becoming more and more competitive, with more and more Main Game teams and drivers getting involved”.
“The Townsville track looks unreal, and with the likes of Cameron McConville, Paul Morris and a quite a few ‘Enduro’ drivers in the Development Series, it’s going to be a bit of a buzz to mix it with them on the racetrack.”
