EDINBURGH Monarchs have gone nine points clear at the top of the Premier League after a stunning weekend of victories.  After the win at home against Newport on Friday the team travelled to Rye House on Saturday and pulled off a last gasp success over the Rockets. Then in wet conditions on Sunday scored another impressive victory over the Wasps.

Said co-promoter John Campbell, "After wrecking his own bike at Rye House on Saturday, Tobias Busch jumped on Kalle Katajisto's second bike and he was simply sensational.

"It's great to have such a big lead at the moment at the top of the league but it's not over yet. But I can say to the other teams in the league - catch us if you can."TAI Woffinden insists he's proud to be British ahead of his full debut in the FIM British Speedway Grand Prix at Cardiff's Millenium Stadium this Saturday (5pm).

Woffinden, 19, is making steady progress up the world rankings in his first season of Grand Prix racing. And he's hit back at a report over the weekend which suggested he could be considering switching allegiance to Australia after spending much of his life 'down under'.

"Nothing can be further from the truth and I'm very angry about one report in particular," said Woffinden. "I was born in England and I've ridden for Great Britain. I'm proud to be British and I'm thrilled to be one of three British riders on Saturday.

"I don't know what more I have to do to prove myself and how patriotic I am to people. Of course I have a lot of Australian friends but I'm British and that's the end of the story as far as I'm concerned. I really wish this report hadn't appeared, I want the support of the British fans at Cardiff just as much as Bomber (Chris Harris) and Scotty (Scott Nicholls).

"I want to put the record straight. The article concerned missed out loads of relevant things I was talking about and it came across completely distorted and wrong. I repeat, I am British and I will always be British. I was proud when I first rode for Great Britain as a team and I was equally proud when I made my Grand Prix debut with the British flag on my chest. "I'm so looking forward to walking out on parade on Saturday. I've been there before as a reserve but I intend to do my very best to maintain my steady improvement and give the British fans something to cheer about."
